Well, we are eight months into 2012 and busy as ever and wish to thank you for your continued
support and prayers. As you read the rest of this newsletter, you find out about some of the wonderful
things happening at the ministry. Please help us by sharing this information with your congregation,

GROOM’S CENTER UPDATES
As One has served more than 4,000 homeless men, women, and children over the past 8 ½ years.
We serve between 60 to 80 daily and constantly have clients utilizing the showers, washers and
dryers. Due to wear and tear, we are in need of a new and/or used washer and dryer to replace one of
our older sets. Please let us know if you have one available and we will arrange for pickup.
Our “Men With Power (MWP)” bible study and support group went fishing in May and the clients and
housing participants had a great time. Special thanks to board member, Forrest Brunnemer for
assisting with this event and to Mt. Zion Restoration for assisting with transportation. MWP meets
every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 6 pm.
Our “Women With Promise (WWP) bible study and support group have enjoyed outing to the movies
and for pizza. WWP meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 6 pm.
We are seeing tremendous growth spiritually, emotionally, and overall in our program participants.
HOUSING PROGRAMS
Permanent Supportive Housing Program – As One has been very fortunate this year, in that we have
been able to assist 7 of our Supportive Housing clients with obtaining either employment and/or their
disability benefits. All of these individuals have or will be assuming their leases and exiting the
program. We will continue to provide follow-up case management services as needed but will be
filling these vacancies with new participants. It is our goal to house 10 (7 replacement units and 3
new units) new individuals and/or families by December 1st. We are in need of furniture and
households items. Please contact us at 704-862-6079, if you have any items available or feel free to
drop them off at 809 W. Airline Ave., Gastonia, NC.
Transitional Housing Program –Renovation of our house on Third Street in Gastonia will be
completed by the end of September and we will be moving our first resident into the house the first
week in October. Special thanks to the Catholic Social Services, AT&T Pioneers, Myers Memorial
Methodist Church, Bethlehem Take-Off Group, and MB Bridges Electrical for making this possible.
EVENT UPDATE
Special Thanks to everyone that supported As One Ministries during the Community Foundation of
Gaston County, Inc. “Run for the Money 10”. We raised $20,312 which will be utilized to assist us with
our supportive housing programs, case management services, and other supportive services for the
homeless men, women, and children that we serve. We would like to thank board member, Jerry
Liska of Mullen, Holland, Cooper, PA and Jason Meulebans, Gaston County DA office who ran for our
agency. Jason placed 3rd in his division and 8th overall. He won $250 for our agency.
On Monday, July 9th As One Ministries was highlighted at the Gastonia Grizzlies Baseball game. We
would like to thank everyone that purchased tickets and came out to support our agency. As One
provided tickets to many of our clients which came out and enjoyed the game. Our agency raised the
largest 50/50 raffle amount of the season and one of the fans, Don Dills took home $330. The $546
that As One raised that night was just enough to pay the Groom Center’s electric bill for that month.
We had such a great time and hope to see you next year.
Mt. Zion Restoration Church held two separate events at the Groom’s Center feet washing and food
giveaway in April. In June they did an outside baptismal service and served lunch.
Bethlehem Baptist Celebrate Recovery sponsored Movie night on May 5th the featured movie was
“Courageous”. On Saturday, July 14th they also sponsored a cookout at our clients.
Thanks to Restoring Hope Church of Dallas, the McKenney Dealerships, and Church of God,
Gastonia for providing lunches at various times over the past months.
OVERFLOW WINTER SHELTER
As One Ministries will open the Emergency Overflow Winter shelter from November 1, 2012 thru March

UPCOMING EVENTS
AT& T Pioneers Day of Caring will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from noon to 4 pm. They will
be providing lunch, coats, and other items to our clients and those in need in the community. Events
will be available for children.
“Hope for the Homeless 2012” will be held at the Gastonia Conference Center on Saturday,
November 17, 2012 during the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Last year’s

Ministries provides in our community, in addition to much needed financial support for our agency.

attend. Individual tickets will be available October 1st at a cost of $75.

“Night of Homelessness” will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Forestview High School to
bring awesome awareness of this issue of homeless children in our community and school system.
This night is also the Ninth Anniversary of As One. Last year, more than 200 students from across
Gaston County participated. Students, parents, and facility slept outside for a night in bitter cold
temperatures to bring awareness to the problem of homeless in our schools. Gaston County has
more than 400 homeless children enrolled, many of which receive services from our agency and
others. This year’s event will be spearheaded by Forestview Senior, Maddie Bone. If you wish to
participate in this year’s event please contact us at 704-862-6079 and check our website at www.
aomofgastonia.org for event updates.
DONATIONS AND GRANTS
As One received the following grants: $4,000 from the Catholic Social Services and $15,000 from the
Carrie E. and Lena Glenn Foundation.
The summer months are the most difficult times for As One due to the donations that we receive
being substantially less. We would like to send out a special thanks to Katie and Keith Sherrill,
Michael Gibson, and Bethlehem Baptist Church for their continued support throughout the year.
Special Thanks to Allen & Tiffany Durst and the AT&T Pioneers for assisting us with school shoes,
book bags, and school supplies for the children enrolled in our supportive housing program.
As One Ministries would also like to thank all of our donors whether you made a monetary donation,
clothing, furniture, toiletries, and/or volunteered thus far this year.
